Our class pet's name is Smoky. He is a chinchilla. He loves to be held, and he is really soft and silky. We are going to learn a lot more about chinchillas when you start third grade! There is a lot to research about them! Here are a few pictures of my 2012 students with Smoky.

ReplyDeleteChinchillas have very delicate bones, so please exercise caution when handling. They can also catch human colds, which can be fatal to them, so it is best to avoid the chinchilla when you are sick. They will eat plastic, and cannot vomit, so it is best to keep plastic away from Smoky as well. Smoky looks like he is loved. Chinchillas are crepuscular, not diurnal, and easily startled and stressed, so I just wanted to pass along this information. Best wishes to you, Smoky, and your class. :)
